The 4th Annual 1890s Multi-State Conference took place on May 15th and 16th 2024. The conference was conducted virtually over zoom and was hosted by seven 1890s Land Grant Universities, with the University of Maryland taking the lead. The 1890s Multi-State Conference focused on building relationships, opportunities, and programs within the communities and highlighted the building of the multi-state effort that originally included three universities.
Walk Across the 1890s was a 10-week pre-conference event that encouraged participants to be active and move more! Individually or teams were encouraged to walk 1290 miles "the distance walking between the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Tennessee State University and Alabama A&M University” over the course of the ten weeks. By the end of the event, a total of 15,628.37 miles were walked!
The 4th Annual 1890s Multi-State Conference was held on May 15th and 16th, 2023. The theme of this years conference was to focus on the fostering healthy communities in local communities as well as aboard. The conference highlighted the building of the multi-state effort among University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Kentucky State University, North Carolina A&T University, Tuskegee University, Tennessee State University, Alabama A&M University, and The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Virtual Lightning Talk presentations were displayed on each day of the conference. The purpose of the lightning talks was to showcase innovative and creative work in the 1890 institutions, increase food access in underserved communities, and help provide access to healthy food systems throughout the community.
In lieu of a registration fee, registrants were asked to give a minimum of $10 donation to the Seton Center-Catholic Charities. All proceeds from the 1890s Multi-State Conference were given to the food bank. $2,258 was for the Seton Center-Catholic Charities.
